Some of you may have heard that my favorite college basketball program, the Kansas Jayhawks, were upset today by a much lower seed in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for the second consecutive year. I was feeling kind of down about yet another forfeited opportunity to raise one more banner into the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse, but then I remembered that I have Royals baseball to look forward to in four days. That’s when I slipped into an all-out depression. I’m kidding of course (have you seen my About page – life is good), but I have turned my attention to the MLB season set to kick-off this Thursday.
In celebration of Opening Day 2011, I thought it would be fun for online sports marketers to share innovative strategies and activations happening in the world of baseball. Throughout the day, Thursday, March 31st 2011, I will be posting some of my own cool finds and polls on Twitter, using the hashtag:
#MLBOSM
(Major League Baseball Online Sports Marketing)
You are welcome to join in the conversation by replying to posts, or posting your own takes, with the above hashtag. Here are some examples of what I’m talking about….
Do something like this:
- The Royals are god-awful on the field, but their email had a 15000% ROI last season: {link to article} #MLBOSM
- Do you think stadium daily deals using the Groupon model would work? #MLBOSM
Don’t do something like this:
- YANKEES RULE! #MLBOSM
- PHILLIES ROCK! #MLBOSM
Hope to see you there this Thursday,
Ryan Sleeper+, Online Sports Marketing Guy
